A wireless adapter is known as a category of connectivity devices that work with PCs or PDAs, smartphones, and the like. In PCMCIA (card) form, the wireless adapter enables a laptop to join a Wi-Fi network. Other form factors include traditional PCI add-in cards that connect directly with a PC motherboard and USB sticks that plug into an external USB port.
Every form of communication has its own format. Structures are set up which reflect the nature of the medium’s technology: letters have “dear” and “sincerely” at the beginning and end; from the oral perspective, walkie-talkies famously used the word “over” once a transmission had ended. But cell phones have greatly accelerated the pace of communication. Cell phones have so many innovations over the preceding technology that they have changed the paradigm of communication in terms of what we say, what we type, and the extent to which we are expected to be in communication.
Portable communication devices and the internet’s mainstream use are at least fifteen years old, but only in the past few years has the technology’s potential been fully realised. Everyone knew the internet would change communication, even if the full dimensions and shape of the change were hard to grasp. The marriage of internet connectivity to wireless devices, the growing sophistication of the devices themselves, and the ever expanding repertoire of applications has truly exceeded early speculation concerning the extent to which technology would change the lives of the everyday consumer.
